The Emily Stowe Shelter for women was opened in 1983 in the Scarborough area by a group of community service workers and counsellors who noticed increased occurrences of violence against women and children.
In 2004, the new Emily Stowe Shelter for women was rebuilt through the tireless efforts of Dr. Roz Roach, and is now called, Dr. Roz’s Healing Place. Dr. Roz’s Healing Place gives women, children, and youth emerging from abusive relationships access to a safe living environment conductive to healing and wellness. This facility helps them recover from violence and trauma through an integrative and holistic approach.
Dr. Roz’s Healing Place works towards the eradication of violence against women and their children locally, nationally, and globally. Through the delivery of innovative programs and services, Dr. Roz’s Healing Place helps empower victims and survivors of violence to make positive changes.
We provide emergency housing, support services and referrals, as well as various programs including counselling, job training, life skills development, creative and educational activities.
